Farm Colony
Our project FARM COLONY were aiming to propose a new topology for the farming industry in Arborea, Sardegna, Italy. Where the initial cost to enter the market were relatively high for those who had interest.
The project proposed a small scale ‘’farming colony’’ which includes farming education, living facilities, along with market opportunities.
We dissect the farm colony into 4 major zones:
Agriculture : Bring in innovative technologies practices including regenerative agriculture education and the portable greenhouse in order to increase the profits gained from a small scale farm.
Cow Breeding: The main part of the Cattle farm retains the columns of the existing barn house and is rebuilt on this foundation. We were trying to redefine cattle farms, placing cattles in smaller living units, and more intelligent supplementary feed systems, adjustable roofs and walls (in response to the climate), and bring in new ventilation system at the starting point.
Market: Positioned along the main street for visibility, the market features open spaces for events and varied stalls. At its core, an innovative zone links retail with agriculture, blending sales and exhibition. Adjustable roofs adapt to seasonal needs
Living: The living component consists of two parts:
Construction of a temporary co-living hub for students and vendors.
Renovation of the existing structure for permanent housing area for staff and local teachers.
Through those aspects, The project imagines a new typology of farm academy, offers new work opportunities for locals, while respecting local dynamics and culture, provide the knowledge of a new methodology of farm operation. The FARM COLONY could be replicated throughout the region , bring in new technology to the farmers along the countryside. Farm become a gathering center in the local region.
